The Use and Operational Experience of the Siemens Electronic Personal Dosimeter by BNFL

INTRODUCTION As part of an initiative to improve control of doses, the recording of personal doses, and the accuracy of dose statistics, BNFL started a three year scheme in April 1996 to install the Siemens Electronic Personal Dosimetry (EPD) system into nine of its Magnox Reactor sites. Concurrent with the installation of the EPD systems, an ultimately successful application has been made to the United Kingdom’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for approval to use the EPD for measuring doses for entry onto legal dose records.
